Viridis Luxe Hemp, Organic Cotton, Bamboo and Silk Clothing
January 14 2009
We’ve been huge fans of Viridis Luxe for a while now—in fact, as designer Hala Bahmet recently informed us, we were among the first to cover the line’s hemp-silk debut, pieces of which are now collector’s items of sorts among ecoistas.
Bahmet has been designing in eco-fabrics since the days when you actually had to spin your own yarn to get sustainable fabrics. And now that green fashion has gone more mainstream, she’s still pushing the envelope, this year returning to her old favorite hemp (THC-free, yet still a felony to grow in this country), which she blends with bamboo, organic cotton and silk to create the ridiculously soft and slinky-sexy fabrics that have become her signature.
For pieces that get you through the transition from winter to spring, check out Viridis Luxe’s latest collection, which is chock full of wearable twists on classic silhouettes. Think gorgeous translucent hemp/silk tunics, ruffle-sleeved fine cashmere cardigans, and sweater tees with exotic details like webbed décolletage, cut-out shoulders and exaggerated dolman sleeves. Layered with a pair of jeans, there is nothing sexier—or softer.
Just don’t call her Rumplestiltskin.
