Amber Marie Bently Recycled Gold and Sustainable Gemstone Jewelry
February 25 2009
You never know what jewelry designer Amber Marie Bently will think of next. First, she tumbled crab shells with turquoise to create a faux coral that eclipsed the original in color and luster—and eschewed the use of coral from environmentally threatened reefs. Then, she melted down recycled gold to make her own chain—by hand. Today, Amber creates heirloom-quality couture jewelry in her San Francisco studio from recycled gold and sustainably sourced gemstones, inspired by extensive travel in India.
When she’s not wrist deep in eco-friendly jewels, she’s working for the environment through the Bently Biofuels and Bently Holdings LEED-certified real estate companies that she owns with her husband, Christopher, while also serving on the boards of Global Green USA, Forest Ethics and PRBO Conservation Science. We’re partial to the Mother of Pearl earrings, which she hand-engraves in the cloisonné style, and the Catch Gold cuff bracelet, with its modern clasp.
We can’t wait to see what comes from her next burst of inspiration.
