Katherine Hamnett for Yoox’s itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny organic cotton polka-dot bikini ($175)

Beloved British eco-fashion pioneer Katharine Hamnett teamed up with fashion retailer Yoox to debut the “Save the Sea” collection for Yoox’s eco-friendly Yooxygen project. And she’s got plenty of reasons for doing so. In the designer’s own words, “The sea that we all love is dying due to the impact of human activities such as oil spills, sewage dumping, industrial pollution, agriculture chemical fertilizers and pesticide runoff…It’s important as consumers and voters that we all know the facts, so that we do what is needed to save it.”

Amen to that, sister.

And hallelujah to Hamnett’s 1950’s-inspired capsule collection, which features a selection of pinup-sexy bikinis made from organic cotton and recycled or renewable materials, plus cover-ups bearing Hamnett’s sea-saving slogans.

We’re especially ga-ga for the designer’s itsy-bitsy-teenie-weenie polka-dot organic cotton bikini , which we can see ourselves sporting at a backyard pool party or retro-chic Miami Beach, with equal aplomb. Heck, the top is sweet enough to pair with a cotton skirt or flirty shorts, no water necessary. And we’ll rest easy on our chaise longue knowing a good chunk of change from our bikini buy helps West African farmers, via Hamnett’s “Fashioning a Better Future” project.
