You gotta love Spirit Demerson. First of all there’s the name. Then there’s the fact that every time we slip up—like missing the parabens that were in a shall-remain-nameless mascara that we featured for a nanosecond last year—she’s all up in our faces with a super-polite email that nevertheless lets us know we need to do our homework a little better. After hearing from Spirit, we took that mascara post down right quick.

So when Spirit writes to tell us she’s fallen in love with something, we sit up and take notice. Such is the case with Organic Apoteke, which she sells at her eponymous website, Spirit Beauty Lounge, where the rules established for eco-friendly cosmetics are rigorously enforced and the facilities are powered by 100% certified renewable wind and hydro energy. (She also donates to 1% For the Planet, as well as CarbonFund, and was recently awarded the Co-Op America Seal of Approval. Can the girl get any greener?)

After being awarded the Best Product of Britain Award in 2006 (we’re imagining a beauty duel with Liz Earle), Organic Apoteke went stateside with its Fair Trade and Vegetarian Society Approved line of certified organic skin care products. The packaging is 100% recycled, labels are biodegradable and the Organic Apoteke factory uses sustainable energy.

Most importantly, Spirit swears by the Detox Face Mask, formulated with Dead Sea mud and organic papaya extracts, and what’s good enough for her is good enough for us.
