Miranda Kerr: Essential Ecoista

Miranda Kerr loves fashion as much as the next ecoista. Photo: Courier Mail Australia.
You may not have known Miranda Kerr’s name before last year—when she became a paparazzi magnet by marrying Orlando Bloom a month after announcing their engagement, then confirming her pregnancy a few weeks later—but you’d certainly recognize her face. The supermodel has posed for everyone from Jil Sander to Prada, and her girl-next-door, dimpled beauty has made her a Victoria’s Secret favorite—both on the runway and off. I wanted to highlight how this model citizen takes environmentalism to heart: Creating the KORA Organic Skincare line, supporting causes like Wildlife Warriors Worldwide—and posing naked and chained to a tree on the cover of Rolling Stone to protest the lack of a protected habitat for the endangered koala. I traded emails with Miranda from her native Australia, where she was waiting out the end of a joyous pregnancy. Miranda and Orlando welcomed their baby boy, Flynn, into the world on January 6th. Part Four of Four.
Rachel Lincoln Sarnoff: You’ve walked runways for everyone from Jil Sander to Prada. Do you ever wear vintage or eco-friendly clothing? Any favorite green fashion labels you can share with us?
Miranda Kerr: I love going vintage shopping—there’s nothing better than finding a one-off vintage piece! I also really love Stella McCartney’s eco-friendly line.
RLS: Any favorite green fashion labels you can share with us?
MK: Barneys New York has a great eco-friendly clothing section. I like Rogan, Edun and Phillip Lim.
RLS: I read that you are a pescatarian—meaning you eat fish, but not meat. Is this choice informed by environmentalism or health—or both?
MK: That’s not entirely true. I eat meat, but rarely. I follow Dr John D’Adamo’s blood type way of life. Acccording to the diet, as an “A” blood type I am generally not supposed to eat meat. I find that when I follow the diet my digestive system functions effectively. I’m also aware of the benefits to the environment from eating less meat, but I encourage people to do what works for them.
RLS: How do you stay in shape?
MK: I’ve been practicing yoga for the last 10 years and I really enjoy the benefits. I also do a combination of Pilates, elliptical machine and walking. Obviously while pregnant I stuck to walking and prenatal yoga.

Congratulations Miranda and Orlando on your beautiful new baby! Photo: Kora Organic Skincare.
RLS: Finally, what’s your worst eco-sin?
MK: Flying, but it’s a necessity for my job. However, I try to do my best by offsetting my miles.
RLS: What offset to you use?
MK: Climate Friendly.
