Mary-Louise Parker Carries the Bag
September 17 2007
She brings new meaning to “green girl” in her role as a suburban mom turned pot dealer on “Weeds,” but what we really love about Mary-Louise Parker is her longstanding commitment to truly eco-conscious living. A two-time Golden Globe, Emmy and Tony Award winner and three-time Tony, four-time Emmy and SAG nominee, the girl’s got more projects in production than we can count on one hand. Catch her on the big screen in “The Spiderwick Chronicles” in February 2008 and “Weeds” in its third season on Showtime this fall, or read all about it in a recent issue of Esquire where she serves as contributing editor—just to name a few. But Ms. Parker took a breather from her oh-so-busy schedule to sit down with little old us. Okay we lied, we don’t know if she was sitting as we did the whole thing through email. But it’s O.G. Mary-Louise Parker! Thank god we were typing as she leaves us speechless!
ES: What kinds of green changes have you made or do you plan to make in your life?
MLP: Simple things: I use cloth napkins, turn off the lights when I leave a room and carry re-usable Whole Foods grocery bags to the market. Living in New York, I don’t own a car and never have, but if I did it would be a hybrid. And I also travel often, so when I stay at a hotel, I try to limit my maid service since so much energy is wasted washing sheets and towels.
ES: What are a few of your favorite green Beauty or Lifestyle products?
MLP: I love Erbaviba, which are all-organic and they make good baby products as well. I also use natural cleaning products for the house like Seventh Generation, The Laundress and Naturally Yours.
ES: Green stores or websites?
MLP: Vivavi.com is a great eco-friendly furniture store.
ES: What’s your favorite eco-friendly tip our readers should know about?
MLP: I carry a big purse so when I’m doing some light shopping I don’t need to take a shopping bag.
