Soda Club MyWater

We should just swear off aluminum cans and plastic bottles altogether. That’s what we thought when we started looking at these disheartening factoids:
• In 2006, Americans guzzled the contents of more than 200 billion bottles and cans—50 billion more than in 2005, and more than double what we consumed 30 years ago.
• At the same time, recycling rates have plummeted from 48 percent in 1970 to just 33 percent in the last decade.
But then we discovered the at-home Soda-Club home carbonation machine, which can reduce the waste of the average soda-guzzling family of four by more than 1,000 bottles a year.
But what about those of us who have learned to live without the daily Diet Coke fix? Are we too Green for the Club? Not any more, as the company now has unsweetened, all-natural MyWater essences in lemon-lime or orange that make your Soda-Club a dead ringer for Perrier lime—sans the bottling and transportation eco-costs, not to mention the cost to your grocery bill. In fact, even if you buy your seltzer at rock-bottom prices—say, $4 for 12 one-liter bottles—the Club has the sale price beat at 18 cents per liter, which translates to $2 per case of 12.
So how does it work? Simply fill the reusable Soda-Club bottle with water, screw it into the machine, press the button, and you’ve got seltzer in 30 seconds. Then add the flavor to taste, just like an old-fashioned soda jerk.
The carbon dioxide tank can brew up to 110 liters of seltzer or soda—enough to last three or four months for said family of four—and it requires no batteries or electricity. And can we talk, yet again, about how cute it looks sitting on your counter?
