Ecover Organic Plant-Based, Biodegradeable Laundry Wash

Okay this is a weird little factoid: Did you know that most conventional laundry detergents contain optical whitening agents, basically synthetics that attach themselves to the fabric during washing and produce an optical illusion that makes it seem whiter than it really is? This is a great little conversation starter at the water cooler, but those laundry detergent allergies are no joking matter.
As we’ve pointed out in the past, the whole laundry industry is pretty damn dirty, but this one takes the (soap)cake. We’ve eschewed fabric softeners for years. (Newsflash, your clothes will be actually softer without!) And our laundry soap went green a few years ago, but we have to say the clothes didn’t seem to get super clean in the bargain, but this was one of those “it’s better for the earth so we’ll live with it” kind of decisions that we didn’t regret.
But recently we tried Ecover and we are cracked out on the stuff. In our totally unscientific laundry room trials, it really did prove to work best of all the eco-friendly laundry soaps. It’s phosphate-free, made from organic plants and minerals and totally biodegradeable—you can use it with gray water systems. It smells absolutely fantabulous, but best of all our clothes are cleaner (and greener) than they’ve been in years—no optical illusions necessary.
