Forget gin. Dry Soda’s new Juniper Berry flavor is the perfect alcohol-free apertif. Dry and crisp with a pine essence and high acidity, the soda was developed in conjunction with Chef Jason Wilson, owner of Crush Restaurant in Seattle and Food & Wine’s best new chef of 2006, who recommends the drink paired with mussels. We like ours straight-up, or stirred (not shaken) with a shot of organic vodka and a splash of the lip-smacking basil-infused simple syrup that green party goddess Paige Anderson of Bash Eco Events created for our EcoStiletto Green Girls’ Night Out at Intuition benefit for Dress for Success in November. As with all Dry Soda, the formula eschews the omnipresent high fructose corn syrup in favor of a light sprinkling of pure cane sugar and natural fruit or herb extracts. And as for that super-secret simple syrup recipe, you’ll have to ask Paige.
