Matt & Nat Marlon Bag ($115)

Take Matt & Nat, which we can’t stop talking about—mostly because we’re as fascinated by the gorgeous, cutting-edge designs as we are by the genesis of the company.

In a nutshell? Some people get religion, Matt & Nat Creative Director Inder Bedi got veganism. After taking a dare to cut out meat for a month, Bedi was inspired to create an accessories brand that didn’t use any animal products, either.

Then he took things a step further by deciding to use recycled materials. Currently, an average of 21 plastic bottles are upcycled to create a Matt & Nat bag, which can be found in Bloomingdale’s stores, as well as boutiques worldwide.

Fifteen years after the Canadian-based Bedi founded the company, these vegan “it bags” are carried by everyone from Kristen Bell to Olivia Wilde, who put their money where their mouths are in supporting environmentally friendly fashion.

Take the fire-engine red, faux suede Marlon, which makes us want to set out a week’s worth of outfits to match it. Luckily, this bag is so affordable we can snap it up in cognac and navy, too.

Swag alert! During the week of 1.22.12, one lucky newsletter subscriber will take home this gorgeous $115 Matt & Nat Japanese Paper Cognac Marlon bag. Good luck!

Yes, our Veganista column only debuted in October, but we’ve been covering vegan fashion since the get-go. This month, we sussed out the best in vegan fashion and beauty to prove the point. Whether you’re cruelty-free or just curious, these awesome bags, lingerie, jewelry and boots are designed to inspire.
