Picture a midsummer wine country landscape, a colorful hot air balloon set against the clear blue sky. Now picture a midsummer anywhere and that balloon wrapped around your bod and cinched, fabulously, with a sash.
No, silly, you’re not wearing the whole balloon, just bits of silky rip-stop nylon, reclaimed from a retired Colorado hot air balloon which the talented folks behind eco-design firm Turk + Taylor unfurled in a football-field-size San Francisco warehouse, before upcycling it into an incredibly cool new collection.
If you think repurposed hot air balloon fabric sounds somewhat less than fashionable, think again. Colorful without being costume-y, silky and supple rather than stiff, and full of fine touches including subtle darting, shell buttons and tab sleeves, these pieces are as welcome as the summer season itself.
