Eco-Fit: Patagonia

Patagonia Multi-Use Skirt ($11 on eBay)
Adding a fourth “r” to the “reduce, reuse, recycle” mantra, sustainable outdoor gear manufacturer Patagonia began encouraging customers to “repair” clothes, rather than buying new, when they launched their Common Threads Initiative last year.
After being endorsed by our hero Annie Leonard of “Story of Stuff,” more than 20,000 people took a pledge to reduce their environmental footprint; the company repaired more than 12,000 garments last year.
If you’ve worked your best running shorts past the “repair” phase and to the point where they’re so threadbare you’re flashing the neighborhood without a raincoat, send them back to Patagonia, which has “recycled” more than 45 tons of old clothes since 2005.
And then invest in a pair of the company’s quick-drying, water-repellant running shorts or skirts, made from 50% recycled polyester, natch, and available for a fraction of the retail price at Patagonia’s eBay store.
Recycling in action!
