Eco-Fit: Lululemon

Lululemon Back on Track Jacket ($148)
We’ve noticed an almost religious devotion to Lululemon exercise clothes among the ecoistas in our ‘hood.
Maybe it’s the way they utilize sustainable fabrics like tencel—upcycled wood pulp that looks and feels like high-grade cotton without the pesticides—to create the line.
Maybe it’s the fact that the company was started by a yogi who gave the clothes to his instructors for feedback. (There’s nothing like a girl wrestling herself into a pretzel to let you know how your tank should fit.)
But we think it comes down to one thing: In a world where women’s gear is basically men’s clothing sized smaller, Lululemon is downright girly.
Pink and purple flash through much of spring 2012 line, where ruffles are de rigueur and there’s a skirt—a skirt!—made just for running.
We’re not sure if we’d wear the skirt on the track—plus, it’s made from petrochemically derived nylon, ick.
But a rain-repellant pink jacket made from recycled polyester? Sign us up!
Even the most disciplined ecoista can get in a rut when it comes to the holidays. Travel and guests get in the way of exercise, and it seems like everywhere you turn somebody’s offering you a cookie. We found style-focused, eco-minded fitness gear from New Balance, Patagonia, Earth Lust, Lululemon and Vibram—plus giveaways and exclusive discounts!—guaranteed to inspire a year’s worth of resolution.
