Fall’s About Face from Lina Hanson: Cat Eye

Can you feel it? Fall is in the air. And after a sizzling-hot summer worthy of an Al Gore prediction, there’s nothing more invigorating than the idea of crisp days and cool nights—and the put-together makeup that goes with them. To set the course, we asked eco-beauty visionary Lina Hanson, author of Eco-Beautiful: The Ultimate Guide to Natural Beauty and Wellness, founder of The Green Beauty School, creator of an eponymous (and fair trade) Global Face Serum set for 2012 and a makeup artist who works with ecoistas Natalie Portman, Naomi Watts and Ellen DeGeneres, among others, to share her favorite looks for fall’s about face. Be ready. This girl knows her sustainable sh*t.

Inspired by felines, immortalized by 1960s film vixen Brigitte Bardot, the “cat eye” look is an enduring classic for a reason: It rocks. And it’s a favorite among non-superstars, too, for a different reason: It’s a cinch to create.

Here’s how to do it in three super simple steps. First, start by dabbing your favorite paraben-free concealer or light foundation to your eyelids to even out your skin tone. Next, using a black liquid or gel liner—we love Dr Hauschka Novum Liquid Black Eyeliner—sweep the liner all the way from the inner corner of the upper eyelid to the outer corner as close to the lash line as possible, staring with a thin line and going thicker as you move along.

Create a little “wing” at the outer corner of the eye, drawing the line up and out. Repeat until you get the desired effect. Let dry, curl your lashes and apply several coats of black mascara.

And here’s a tip: Make sure to keep the rest of your makeup neutral to avoid looking overdone. This dramatic, come-hither eye look is fierce enough on its own. Meow!
