Best Eco-Beauty & Health Gift Guide: A Perfume Organic

One for them, two for you: We found beauty buys perfect for stocking stuffing—or stocking up! Now through New Year’s, the Eco-Beauty & Health Gift Guide showcases our Best of 2010 favorites at 25% off—or more—in EcoStiletto SHOP. Part One of Nine.
Do you sneeze after you spritz? Does a walk through the department store leave you with a splitting headache? It’s not just the prices that are affecting your well-being—it’s the chemicals. According to the National Academy of Sciences, more than 95 percent of the chemicals used in fragrances are synthetic compounds derived from petroleum, including toxins that have been linked to allergic reactions, among other things.
More and more people are claiming “fragrance sensitivity” responsible for migraines, sinus attacks and more, yet since the industry is self-regulating, there’s no hard data calculating this cause-and-effect. But this year, a study by the Environmental Working Group and the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics analyzed 17 of the market’s most popular perfumes and found that they contain, on average, 14 hazardous chemicals that aren’t listed on their labels.
So not sexy.
Luckily, we found USDA certified scents from A Perfume Organic, which offers reasonably priced ($65 for a 12 ml roll-on bottle) exquisitely crafted perfumes blended from the finest USDA certified organic botanicals, hand-poured in small batches to maintain purity. As pictured on our home page, A Perfume Organic’s best-selling Green scent mashes up a beautiful bouquet of unlikely partners—rose, black truffle and ylang ylang. But we’re crushing on the rich, warm ridiculously sensual Rosé, which was created in partnership with Sommelier Katherine Marlowe. With notes of oak and spice, it’s the perfect accent for the season.
Now through 12.31.10, get 25% off on all A Perfume Organic products on EcoStiletto SHOP with “ecoholiday” at checkout. Check back next week for more of our gift guide raves and faves!
