My Labor Day healing weekend was the perfect lead in to Fashion Week. I felt charged, great and ready to take New York by storm.
I ended up having to take a red eye, so I hit the ground running as soon as I arrived. I had dresses waiting at my hotel and 15 minutes to get ready to sit front row at BCBG, but I made it!
It was fashion’s night out, and the city was swarming with people. I headed to QVC to announce my new line, Angela by John Hardy.
It’s a natural direction after working with the sustainable brand for years now. My recycled silver line is inspired by my travels to Bali and the amazing artisans there. It was also inspired by the natural beauty and spirit of this sensual island. These will be true collector’s pieces as they will be sold exclusively on QVC for a limited time. I will design new collections every few months eventually featuring gold and natural stones as well. I’m so excited to share with you! Check out QVC on Oct 18th.
Another highlight of the trip was rediscovering ABC home. What an amazing array of sustainable products for the home. I could get in big trouble there—so many beautiful things! I had an amazing dinner with one of my best friends, muse and mentor Alexandra Spadea of Rockland Farm Alliance at ABC Kitchen, which is a farm-to-table restaurant. Chef and owner Jean George creates a menu of local, organic and original environmentally-conscious food. I also heard that ABC will be hosting conscious events—Deepak Chopra will be speaking starting in October.
I then did an inspiring video shoot at Cropsey Farm with Above, the magazine that I shared with you a few weeks ago. This was an awesome opportunity to share the Cropsey Farm story. We will host a farm-to-table fundraiser dinner in October!
On Sept 14th we had an event with Yoxi to announce our winner of Trim The Waste Of Fashion contest. Sea Endless was our winner and I look forward to seeing what they accomplish with their brand. I’m very inspired by the mission of Yoxi, not only in fashion, but food, education and transportation. It is a group effort to make change happen. Stayed tuned in to what they are up to next!
It was a busy week, and I was very happy to combine a week of fashion with my passions! I flew off to Nice in the heart of the world of fragrance to launch the new Pure DKNY scent of verbena basil. Through the efforts of the brand we have successfully implemented eco-responsible packaging and socially conscious efforts through CARE. We’re making a difference one drop at a time, through empowering women in Africa by setting up village savings and loans program. I hope that Pure DKNY’s efforts will inspire other companies to see that we need not compromise luxury and design while being sustainable at the same time. I love that now my work is aligning so well with what I believe in!
Love & Light,
