Angela Lindvall: Connecting with the Mother

It was great to return home to my boys and the land after five days in NYC. It is so vital to connect with Mother Nature. After all, we are all a part of nature. This is where I shed my skin and rejuvenate, especially after swarming the fashion scene and the big city. This is where my heart is. The best way to care for our planet is to connect with it. Hear it, feel it and participate within it. Since the spring has sprung I’ve slept with the windows open. I wake with the rising sun to hear the birds sing. It amazing how the little things in life make us happy, if we just take notice of the present moment.
Sunday was a beautiful Mother’s Day. A day to celebrate all mothers and our Mother Earth. The nurturer, the feminine, the divine nature of women. I had an amazing brunch of organic live raw foods at my favorite restaurant, The Inn Of The Seventh Ray. Then spent the rest of the day playing with my boys. Children are the biggest joy in life!
And I’ve been reconnecting with the land. I was happy to see that while I was away the chard grew in abundance. I was also happy to receive the gift of a new apple tree from a sweet girlfriend. A tree is one of the best gifts one could give. Something to grow with the person, provide fruit and do good for the planet. I will add it to the orchard of many other fruits here.
I love to have herbs, fruits and vegetables that I grow myself. Otherwise, I try to buy from the local organic farmers. It makes a huge difference in our local economy and the overall health of the planet. And, of course, ourselves. Rockland Farm is a big project that I am a part of in NYC that is creating a model for local agriculture.
This is also time to tend to the compost. It’s amazing to me how we can create new potent earth from waste. Nature is a beautiful cycle. Creating with waste!
Farming and planting to me is the best metaphor for life. First we must prepare the soil, and then plant our seeds. Through nurture and care our seeds will sprout, and only after time will they produce fruit!
For me, being a working mother, everything is about balance. If I didn’t have the life I have, it would be hard for me to do the job I do. I am very grateful. It’s hard sometimes to be present; to stop and take in the beauty all around us, but when we do it makes a big difference. Love our Mother & love ourselves!
