With a new found understanding of the dangers of synthetic perfumes, our long-term relationship with Issey Miyake has been terminated. Oh, sure, we still gaze longingly at him sometimes. After all, we’ve been together since high school and few major events—prom night, first dates, job interviews, wedding day (and night)—have gone by without him touching our skin. And he never got jealous when we strayed, indulging in the occasional fling with a scented oil or eau de toilette, since we always came back to Mr. Miyake.

But things are different now. As we try to eschew synthetic perfumes in household cleaners, laundry detergents, soaps, scrubs, and lotions, we’re becoming more sensitive to chemical fragrances around us. We walk into a room that’s recently been chemically cleaned and can smell it immediately. We avoid the first floors of department stores. And the last time we had a tryst with Issey, the unavoidable happened: we sneezed.

That’s why we’re thrilled to discover Pacifica solid perfumes. These tiny little tins are small enough to toss into a makeup bag or slide into your pocket, but the scents they contain are as beautiful and intense as anything that comes in a bottle. Made of 100% organic soy and coconut wax, the perfumes are created from sustainable and safe raw materials like guava, lime and grapefruit. Our favorite is the brand new Malibu Lemon Blossom, which donates five percent of proceeds to Ocean Liberation, a non-profit formed by Pacifica founder Brook Harvey-Taylor to combat ocean pollution.
