2008 Archives: Liz Earle: Organic, Eco-Friendly and Naturally Active Skincare

Maybe it’s the fact that they live on an island where it rains most of the year. Maybe beer is truly the fountain of youth. Or maybe, just maybe, the secret to the proverbial English-rose complexion is in Liz Earle’s Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser.
Created by a former beauty editor who eschews animal ingredients (and testing), mineral oils, chemical preservatives (as much as possible) and genetically engineered ingredients in favor of organic, locally sourced botanical ingredients, the C&P is a simple remedy that’s caused something of a sensation in the U.K. and is now available stateside through the web and (exclusively, natch) at L.A.’s own STUDIO at Fred Segal.
What’s all the fuss about? Basically what your mother always told you: Wash well, and use a cloth. The creamy (yet non-greasy) cleanser is formulated with almond milk, chamomile and, refreshingly, eucalyptus essential oil, and comes packaged with its own special thin muslin washcloths (we like to flaunt our Anglophilia and call them “flannels”). Rub on the cleanser; warm up the cloth under water and massage. That’s it. But the results are ridiculously smooth, perfectly exfoliated, super-clean-but-not-tight skin. Just like an English rose.
And we’d hoped the answer was beer.
