It happens every time. You get about halfway though a bar of soap and it cracks right down the middle. That’s because most commercial soaps are made with high percentages of water, as well as chemical fragrances and preservatives. What’s a EcoStilettoista to do? Try goat milk soap.

With a pH level close to that of human skin, and Caprylic Acid to maintain a low alkalinity, goat milk is perfect for those suffering from psoriasis, eczema or plain-old sensitive, dry skin. The short-strand protein structure allows it be easily absorbed into the skin and makes it highly moisturizing. And it’s got more vital vitamins like A, B, C and D, protein, calcium, potassium, magnesium and triglycerides (fats) than either cow’s milk or water.

No wonder Cleopatra reportedly bathed in it. You would too if you had a pyramid full of handmaidens and a dairy.

And now you do, in the form of Chivas Skin Care, which is made in Camarillo, CA by a mother-and-daughter team who hand-milk their French Alpine Goats to produce the pure goat milk that they use to create their all natural, chemical and synthetic free line of skin care products. The goat milk is augmented with herbs from their garden, locally sourced essential oils and shea butter from a Fair Trade certified women’s cooperative in Togo, Africa, and products are packaged in 100% FCC certified recycled paper printed with organic ink (no plastic here). Chivas partnered with the Nomad Foundation to support the nomadic Tuareg tribe of Niger. The company is in the process of becoming Fair Trade certified, and their soaps Certified Organic.

So maybe not milking handmaidens. But certainly busy bees.
