2008 Archives: Apothia IF

We are perfume whores. There. we’ve said it. You know about the long-standing affair with Issey Miyake, which we broke off after a quick fling in the Malibu Lemon Blossoms. We dallied with Strange Invisible Perfumes after learning that, according to the National Academy of Sciences, more than 95 percent of the chemicals used in fragrances are synthetic compounds derived from petroleum, including toxins that have been linked to allergic reactions, among other things.
But despite the fact that we stopped sneezing, our hearts weren’t in it. We secretly longed to immerse ourselves in the ridiculously sensual mix of bergamot, yuzu, grapefruit, gardenia, freesia, tuberose and musk that is IF, part of the Apothia Aromatics Collection by Ron Robinson. There is nothing, NOTHING, that smells so warm, delicious and sexy at the same time. But seeing as Mr. Robinson isn’t known for being eco-conscious, we assumed his IF was a mixture of synthetic fragrances and, thus, when our itty bitty roll-on ran out, we recycled the glass like we were burying a lover. (Dramatic? Us?)
But now we’ve discovered that when it comes to IF (drum roll here) there’s not a synthetic note in the bunch and we can roll with abandon (but never spray; the Eau de Toilette doesn’t live up to its cousin). Thank you, Mr. Robinson, thank you!
