2007 Archives: Zooey Organic Tees

Who says a t-shirt can’t be glamorous? The ubiquitous tee has yet to hit the red carpet, but we can imagine some style icon rocking the Emmy’s in a wispy crew neck with a gigantic ball skirt, especially if it’s a paper-thin organic cotton Zooey tee emblazoned with an au courant message that broadcasts the wearer’s eco-friendly intention to the world—or at least the Style Network. Crafted by Esprit and Levi’s alum Alice Heller, who pioneers the sort of casual cooler-than-thou fashion Southern Californians have come to be known for (this despite the fact that she’s an East Coast transplant), Zooey hit the streets this year with a line of 20 fabulous tees that are all eco-friendly—from construction to production to the boxes they ship them in. Plus two dollars of each sale benefits Healthy Child Healthy World, a non-profit dedicated to protecting children’s environmental health that we are such big fans of we even asked their Executive Director to be a member of our Advisory Board. In true earth tones of white, yellow, brown and, oh yes, several shades of green, accented by stylized butterflies, peace signs and globes, Zooey tackles the tired old earth-friendly slogan and comes up brand spanking new. Our favorite? “Think Green. Be Cool.” Now that says it all.
