2007 Archives: Veev: Organic, Green Acai Spirits

Oprah called it her “number one superfood” because of the antioxidant and vitamin rich properties of acai (pronounced “ah-SIGH-ee”). With 57 percent more antioxidants than pomegranates and 30 times more heart-healthy anthocyanins (huh?) than red wine, this Brazilian export (it’s the country’s national fruit), could become our go-to morning pick-me-up. Except that our favorite way of ingesting it just happens to be alcoholic.

The world’s first acai spirit, VeeV purports to provide a hangover-free drinking experience, thanks to the inclusion of mineral and vitamin A-rich prickly pear. These claims have yet to be tested by the relatively teetotaling EcoStilettoistas, but it sure does taste good in limited quantities. Add the third member of VeeV’s exotic fruit triumvirate, the vitamin C-powerhouse acerola cherry (yet another Brazilian export), and we think drinking a lot of it could even be good for us.

But until we can tie one on in order to prove VeeV right, we’ll love the company for its commitment to preserving the rainforests where Veev sources its beloved acai. A full $1 per bottle goes to support green initiatives such as the Rainforest Action Network and Sambazon’s Sustainable Acai Project. They’ve got all kinds of eco-cred, including the Luxury Eco™ stamp.
