2007 Archives: The Laundress Dryer Sheets, Recyclable and Biodegradable

We haven’t used dryer sheets since we learned that they’re made from synthetic, non-biodegradable material coated with tallow derived from cow fat. Ick. But we do miss that just-out-of-the dryer smell and the added bonus of having dryer sheets in the house to stuff in shoes, drawers and luggage, eliminating odor and keeping mold-making moisture at bay. That’s why we were thrilled to discover The Laundress Dryer Sheets. They’re made from plant-derived ingredients, contain nothing toxic or carcinogenic, and are 100 percent recyclable and biodegradable. We also flipped for The Laundress Wash & Stain Bars, which eliminate the need for that lowly and probably toxic spray bottle of unnamed stain remover that’s been lurking in the laundry room behind the more earth-friendly suds while we figured out how to pre-treat effectively sans chemique. All The Laundress products smell fantastic—vaguely perfume-y and fabulous in an Upper East Side sort of way. With their signature black-and-white striped boxes, The Laundress launched in 2004 with a mission to transform the laundry from frumpy to fabulous. We’re still not looking forward to it, but we are starting to feel rather Eloise at the Plaza when we do laundry these days. Charge it please!
