2007 Archives: Simple Shoes: Organic, Sustainable Footwear

It would be oh-so-simple if everything were made the way of Simple shoes: the company’s mantra is how they make their shoes is as important as why they made them. Meaning it’s not just about the bottom line. Meaning they look for more sustainable ways of doing bizness so they can support their inner shoe-creating divas, which leads to slammin’ little kicks made out of organic cotton, bamboo and jute, with soles made out of cork or recycled car tires, held together with water-based glue and elbow grease. Committed to making their product 100 percent sustainable, Simple also put its money where it’s mouth is (which, even though they’re a shoe company, really isn’t the same as putting your foot in your mouth) by supporting likeminded charities and causes such as Heal the Ocean and the Solutions for Dreamers Festival. Plus they’re spreading the word to fellow shoe manufacturers by hosting things like the ecoETHICS panel at WSA, the biggest footwear trade show in America. Simple makes shoes for men, women and kids, but what we really flipped for are jute bags like the Hangover, Combover and Feedbag with zippers made with components recycled from milk jugs and water bottles. Cool (organic) beans.
