You may have noticed that we focus less on places we can go to (virtually or otherwise) and more on stuff we can hold in our hot little hands. But we kind of fell in love with the online Modify store. It’s brand spankin’ new, launched a scant two weeks ago as the brainchild of Gina Stowe and Heather Bickley, a lawyer and high school teacher, respectively, who met when they were both pregnant in a little town just outside Philly and realized that they needed some way to marry their burgeoning green consciousness with their fashion and beauty passions, and still be available to change a diaper or four in the process. Go greentrepreneur moms!

Sporting the fabulous tag line “Going green never looked so good” (and you know we love our tag lines), Modify is all about “creating a synergy of awareness and aesthetic, social responsibility and style…an opportunity to use your purchasing power to make both ethical and stylish choices.” In other words, they’re Greenies!

Gina and Heather definitely have “the eye,” as they say in “the biz” (we’re a little quote happy these days) and they do their research to back it up: All products are created through sustainable means and materials, engage in ethical labor practices and support free trade.

Their picks run the gamut from fashion to home decor to vintage to beauty. And we love how they don’t just stock stuff that a publicist placed in the news but look for off-the-radar brands that are keeping it eco-real. Case in point? The Beauty section, where you’ll find the Home Spa set from Lily Organics, a small mom-and-pop shop that’s been making green beauty essentials for years from certified organic herbs grown on their fifth-generation farm in Henderson, Colorado. Modify also stocks addictive Purely Organic lip & cheek shimmers and Nature Girl’s entire range fabulously packaged in message bottles—like the PEACE LOVE NATURE BABY botanical face moisturizer—that we could see in Gwen Stefani’s bathroom.
