Girl, heal thyself! That icky-sticky pancake you’ve been slathering on each morning is a potential pore-clogger, loaded with chemicals and artificial flavors and colors. Now, we’re not saying Physician’s Formula doesn’t carry its share of perfume, but until the company’s organic line debuts in 2008 we’ll have to make do. The Formula, as we like to call it, is thankfully free of that highly allergenic, powdery substance known as talc, which has been clogging up pores for about 100 years now.

Great for sensitive or acne-prone complexions, mineral foundations really do allow the skin to breathe and include natural antioxidants to protect and condition. It took us a little while to understand the mineral concept—key to note is your skin must be bone-dry upon application, even a little moisturizer and your sheer brush strokes can turn into a paste so thick you could brush your teeth with it.

But what we really like is that you can get Physician’s Formula anywhere—you don’t have to order online, or go to some high-falutin’ beauty supply where the fabulous drag queen behind the counter gives you the once over if you’re smokey-eye looks a little, well, smoked. From Pacoima to Peoria, if you need a makeup fix just hop on into your local drugstore and you’ll find these sleek little cases filled with the goods.

As you well know (someone flipped the switch from cackles to carols last week), ‘tis the season, and the Formula’s breaking out the good stuff with the Holiday Illuminating Mineral Kit, which is a good way to try relatively green mineral makeup (or stuff someone’s stocking with it) for very little green. It’s got the cult favorite Mineral Wear Talc-Free Veil that comes in that purse-friendly brush applicator thingy that we love to stash everywhere for a quick powder fix, plus a quad of Eye Shadow in three wearable shades from Nude to Warm (for those bronze goddesses among us).
