2007 Archives: PeaceKeeper Cause-Metics: Sustainable, Eco-Friendly Beauty Products

This company just plain rocks. Founded in 2002 by visionary Jody R. Weiss, not only does PeaceKeeper Cause-Metics make simply fabulous, non-toxic lipstick and nail polish (more on this later), but one hundred percent of proceeds are donated to women’s health and human rights advocacy issues. Not ten, not fifteen, but one hundred percent.
That means each and every purchase that you make at PeaceKeeper goes to fighting things like female genital mutilation, which happens to 140 million women worldwide, or rape, which claims a victim every six minutes. Not to get all heavy on you or anything.
Go lighter with PeaceKeeper’s aptly named Lip and Nail Paints in colors like Paint Me Empowered or Paint Me Open-Minded. We’re especially fond of the muted rose Paint Me Content, which looks gorgeous on pretty much anybody and is a great sentiment to read every time you open your purse. Here’s what PeaceKeeper Cause-Metics don’t have: artificial colors or fragrances, toluene, formaldehyde, acetone or phalates (typically found in nail polishes), parabens or synthetic preservatives, mineral oil, lanonin, sodium lauryl or sulfates. And no bunny testing, of course.
Here’s what they do have: beeswax, shea butter, and this amazingly antioxidant agran oil which is harvested by Berber women living near Moroccan forests who use traditional methods requiring 12 hours to extract a single liter of oil. With all this good stuff you’d think they’d be super expensive, right? Wrong. They ring up about the same as department store brands.
Paint us in.
