That million-dollar borrowed diamond harness is so red carpet 2006. Try a new concept in “resurrected” jeweled glamour, brought to you by Lisa Salzer, the visionary behind Lulu Frost. Salzer takes found period antiques—long-lost room numbers from the legendary Plaza Hotel, cut steel shoe buckles from the 1860s, watch fobs, liquor tags, eyeglasses and more—and reincarnates them as amazingly opulent, gorgeous necklaces and bracelets that are all one-of-a-kind, thereby eliminating the possibility of a carpet catfight. Our favorites are the cuff bracelets created from Victorian buckles, or the Spectacle necklace, which dangles a brass monocle from an embellished antique chain—and we have to give a shout-out to the amazing Lulu Frost website, which makes us feel like we’re paging through our great-grandmother’s scrapbook, using a draggable magnifying glass to get a closer look. Brilliant! The granddaughter of an estate and antique jewelry dealer, Salzer launched Lulu Frost in 2004 and won Best New Accessories Designer at GenArt in 2005, proving that the reduce and reuse concept is truly au courant.
